Amateurs Visiting Jersey
Licensing
UK
licenses are valid for ALL parts of the UK. Even though Jersey is
NOT part of the UK (it is part of the British Isles) for Amateur Radio
Purposes it is taken-as-read that we are part of the UK.
Callsigns
merely
change to indicate the prefix of the area you are in. e.g. G0XYZ (or
GW0XYZ)
becomes GJ0XYZ, etc.
CEPT
licenses are also valid with calls becoming GJ/homecall or
MJ/homecall.
NB although GH is a valid prefix for Jersey, it is valid ONLY for
clubs
passing third party traffic.
The Radio Licensing Centre issues
UK
licenses:
Subscription Services Limited, PO
Box 885,
Bristol, BS99 5LG, England (Telephone +44(0) 117-9258333). Their
website is
http://www.radiolicencecentre.co.uk/rlc/
The UK Office of Communications Ofcom are responsible for licenses in Jersey.
Any
queries should be directed to them.
QSL cards.
Any
operation in Jersey WILL draw QSL cards through the Buro.
Suitable
self-addressed envelopes with adequate return postage should be left
with the
Jersey buro manager (currently GJ3XZE).
These
can also be sent to the club at:
The Jersey Amateur Radio
Society
The Old German Signal Tower
Le Chemin des Signaux
St. Brelade
Jersey
Channel Islands
Great Britain
If you do not
provide us with envelopes, you will not have your
QSL's!
Postage from Jersey costs us a sizeable fortune each year!
Local QSO's
There
is
a 2m repeater in Jersey but it is currently off air for complete
refurbishment.
Most locals listen on 145.500 FM,
but
there isn't a lot of activity so don't give up if you don't get a reply
straight away.
Currently there is very little 70cm
operation, although there is a 70cm repeater in the planning stages...
Our sister Island
If
you
are thinking of visiting Guernsey, then GU3MBS has drawn up a good web page of
information.
